Why Students Need Internships?   PDF  Print  E-mail
Written by IA Team

NotesWith the increasing number of students armed with degrees from good universities around the world and also good results, students require something extra to differentiate themselves from their peers when pursuing full-time job opportunities. The answer to that we believe is an internship. Regarded by many successful graduates as an effective means to develop functional skills, strengthen CVs, and gain more industry contacts, undergraduates are now applying to internship programs across a multitude of industries.

According to a recent survey by Wetfeet.com, one of the largest sources of career advices in the world, in their Internships Programs Report 2004 on why students seek internships, the main reasons are as follows (in order of preference):

1. To strengthen their CVs
2. Try out a new company/industry/job
3. Do interesting/challenging work
4. Earn money
5. Try out a potential full-time employer
6. Learn new skills
7. Get a full-time job offer from employer
8. Make connections/network

And now on where students normally seek for internships, big multinationals are the common choices. However, a quick browse across internship recruitment pages of these companies often reveal that only penultimate year students need apply. So, what happens to those who are not in their penultimate years but wish to have an edge over their peers?

We, at Internship ASIA are here to help.
